The Shires Equestrian Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Snaffles are double jointed with a copper lozenge link.
The double joint removes the nutcracker action associated with single jointed bits.
The Hanging cheeks work because of the angle of the bit within the horse's mouth. The bit, when fitted correctly and with a steady rein contact, encourages the horse to lower his head carriage, as pressure is applied to the tongue by the mouthpiece when he raises his head too high.
The Sweet Iron is darker in colour and is designed to oxidise (rust) and produce a sweet taste to help with mouthing as it encourages salivation.
The copper portion also promotes warmth, salivation and softening. Bit Rings are made of Stainless Steel.
