According to the British Equestrian Federation there are 4.2 million people participating in equestrian sports in the UK.
Not all of these equine enthusiasts are actively competing in the various disciplines of equestrian sport, but there are nevertheless many thousands who enjoy testing their competence in anything from polo to vaulting.
When we speak of competition at a local level though, it usually means eventing, showjumping and dressage, and success - no matter what age group you belong to - depends to a large extent on being well turned out and well-prepared.
