The Shires Jointed Loose Ring Snaffle is a single jointed bit, which creates a nutcracker action within the mouth, so it is considered to be more severe than the French link or lozenge.
The 65mm (5"-6") loose rings allow more movement in the mouth. The 4.5" bit has 50mm rings
